Greenwood Military Aviation Museum

The Greenwood Military Aviation Museum traces the history of RAF/RCA/CFB Greenwood from its inception in 1942 to the present day. The museum is housed in its newly constructed quarters of over 8,000 square feet of display area. Features include aircraft and period displays including interactive attractions. A fully functional multi purpose meeting room, a tea shop, library/resource centre, AVRO ANSON restoration, Memorial Garden, and Aero Park will make your visit a memorable experience. Wing tours are conducted in the summer months, reservations required. Hours of operation: Sept. to May, Tues. to Sat., 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; June to August, seven days a week, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Artists' Circle

The Artists' Circle is an organization for those interested in painting, oils, acrylics, water colours, etc., which meets the third Monday of each month at 726 Rocknotch Road, Greenwood. For information, contact Myrna Maye, 902-765-2532

Figure Skating

The Greenwood Skating Club features CanSkate, Junior CFSA, CFSA Test System nd Adult programs. The club operates out of both Greenwood Gardens and Western Kings Arena, Kingston. CanSkate, a learn to skate program for all ages with lessons twice a week at Kingston Arena runs under the direction of a professional coach with volunteer trained helpers. Junior CFSA is a step-up program from CanSkate, two days a week (group and private lessons both available). CFSA Test Stream operates out of both Greenwood Gardens and Western Kings Arena, with approximately eight hours ice time per week, with spring, winter and fall sessions. Adult, a learn to skate program under the direction of a professional coach, is held once a week at Greenwood Gardens. Golf

The Paragon Gold and Country Club, Kingston, is an 18-hole course and has a membership of about 700. Visitors are welcome. For information, call CPGA Professional Rick Banyard at the Pro Shop, 902-765-2554.
The Greenwood Golf Club, Greenwood, is an 18-hole course with a membership of about 440. Visitors are welcome. Access is through the main gate at 14 Wing Greenwood. For information, contact the Pro Shop at 902-765-1494, Local 5800.


Gymnastics

The Rainbow Riders Gymnastic Club for boys and girls, with over 80 members, is located in the AVM Morfee Centre, Greenwood. Competitive Group meets Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 5-7 p.m.: Recreational Group Sunday, 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Recreational and competitive opportunities for interested enthusiasts are available. Swimming

The Greenwood Dolphins Swim Club offers boys and girls in the area a chance to learn, improve and enjoy the sport of swimming. Guppies, 4-8 years, development program; Future League, 7-10 years, stroke and skill development, competition optional; Seniors, 11 years and over, adults welcome, fitness program, competition optional; Go for High, 11 years and over, strong commitment to competitive swimming. Soccer

Greenwood/Kingston Soccer Club (KGSC), features a soccer program for ages 3 to 17. This club is associated with Soccer Nova Scotia, in the Valley District. The aim of soccer is participation and learning the skills of soccer within the theme of Fair Play. The 2005 season, beginning in May and ending in early September, will see the club field approximately 32 teams with a membership of over 500 players.

Hockey

Greenwood Minor Hockey fosters competitive sports by encouraging fair play. The Fair Play program was introduced in the 96/97 season to develop an atmosphere through which children could learn to participate fairly and where coaches, organizers and parents would set appropriate examples. "Lessons in sports are lessons in life." This past season say enrolment of 240 children from Greenwood, Kingston and the surrounding area, with ages four to 15 participating from Mites to Midgets. Baseball

Greenwood/Kingston Minor Baseball objectives are to teach baseball skills, fellowship and sportsmanship to minor baseball players by promoting maximum participation regardless of gender or ability. In the 1999 season about 160 participants registered with teams, including T-ball, Mosquito, Pee Wee, Bantam/Midget. For information or to register call Bill Cox, 902-765-0206.
 
Basketball

The Greenwood Minor Basketball season runs from September to April with registrations in late August. They operate out of Dwight Ross School gymnasium and Greenwood Community Centre gymnasium. There are Junior Mini, Senior Mini, Bantam and Midget teams in the association. In the 1999 season, about 140 youths, 7-15 years old learned basketball skills, sportsmanship and how to participate as a team member. The objectives of the association are to promote fair play and to allow all team members an equal opportunity to participate in the game. Information, contact Brian Croke, 902-765-0365.
